I woke up in the state of Ancapistan, a libertarian nation\u2014and my first emotion was disgust.<\/p>\n
A state! Those damn Libertarian Nationalists!<\/p>\n
That was the word they used. Casually. Without apology.<\/p>\n
I had spent my youth insisting no state could exist without betrayal. States were how domination laundered itself into legitimacy. States were the lie that power told to sleep at night. I had called myself an anarchist because I refused to pretend otherwise.<\/p>\n
So when I realized Ancapistan had a constitution, borders, and a republic\u2014something in me recoiled.<\/p>\n
This wasn\u2019t what we promised each other in the pamphlets.<\/p>\n
This wasn\u2019t the dream.<\/p>\n
But the dream kept not breaking.<\/p>\n
No one demanded my allegiance. No one taxed my labor. No one regulated my choices. I owned what I earned. I spoke without permission. I defended myself without paperwork. Children grew up without being indoctrinated into obedience or dependency.<\/p>\n
And worst of all\u2014<\/p>\n
it worked.<\/p>\n
I looked for the coercion we\u2019d been warning about for decades. I expected subtle tyranny, creeping mandates, soft force hidden behind civility.<\/p>\n
Instead, I found something far more unsettling.<\/p>\n
Restraint.<\/p>\n
People here did not behave as if freedom were fragile. They behaved as if it were normal. Contracts mattered. Property mattered. Boundaries mattered. Not because the state demanded it\u2014but because the culture did.<\/p>\n
When someone violated those norms, there was no riot, no spectacle, no moral theater. They were isolated. Untrusted. Removed if necessary. No apologies made for them. No excuses constructed on their behalf.<\/p>\n
I realized then what no one in my old circles wanted to admit. That a society that refuses to enforce anything ends up enforcing the will of its worst members.<\/p>\n
We used to call that tolerance.<\/p>\n
Here, they called it negligence.<\/p>\n
I asked where the government intervened.<\/p>\n

The constitution\u2014short, unromantic, and brutally explicit\u2014did not grant rights. It assumed them. Its only purpose was to limit the machinery capable of violating them. Power was enumerated like a list of sins, not privileges.<\/p>\n
Borders existed. Not to keep people in\u2014but to keep coercion out. Entry required nothing but consent to the rules: don\u2019t violate self-ownership, don\u2019t demand to be carried, don\u2019t import force and call it compassion.<\/p>\n
I hated how much sense it made.<\/p>\n
Because it meant admitting something that anarchists rarely say out loud:<\/p>\n
We don\u2019t just want freedom.<\/p>\n
We want freedom protected from other people\u2019s refusal to live by it.<\/p>\n

It was anti-expansionary.<\/p>\n
Anti-missionary.<\/p>\n
Anti-control.<\/p>\n
The state existed here the way a scar exists\u2014evidence of a wound survived, not a body still bleeding.<\/p>\n
Calling it a republic wasn\u2019t a betrayal of anarchism.<\/p>\n
It was the admission that anarchy without boundaries is just a power vacuum with better slogans.<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t wake up in the absence of coercion.<\/p>\n
I woke up in a place that had finally learned where coercion comes from\u2014and had the courage to fence it in.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s the part that makes people like my younger self uncomfortable.<\/p>\n

No coercion, no excuse.<\/strong><\/p>\n Freedom is not provided. \nThe Ancapistan Standards<\/strong><\/h5>\n
\nNo person may be compelled, managed, subsidized, reeducated, or sacrificed for another\u2014by individuals, mobs, or institutions.<\/p>\n
\nWhat you earn, trade for, or homestead is yours. Violation of property is violence, whether done privately or \u201cdemocratically.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nEntry into the society is voluntary. Exit from it is unpunished. Participation beyond non-aggression is optional.<\/p>\n
\nAny authority that extends beyond preventing violence, fraud, or invasion is illegitimate by definition.<\/p>\n
\nIt is a dangerous tool\u2014tolerated only insofar as it is constrained, enumerated, transparent, and culturally despised.<\/p>\n
\nThey exist to protect a culture of non-coercion, not to impose identity or extract obedience.<\/p>\n
\nSocial trust, ostracism, reputation, and refusal are the primary regulators. Formal force is the last resort.<\/p>\n
\nAnd defense requires structure\u2014minimal, reluctant, and constantly under suspicion.<\/p>\n
